Norfolk Island has lots of spiders, however,
potential visitors need not worry, because the spiders we feature rarely venture
inside houses or buildings. three of the species featured are relatively large
spiders that make huge webs between trees or poser lines. they remain quite
motionless and are generally considered harmless. visitors find them quite
intriguing, especially the Community spiders in their huge misty webs.
T he process of identifying these spiders for this issue was very interesting,
as only limited study has ever been made of our spiders, in fact, one has not
been properly described as yet. spiders are such an interesting animal, they are
so diverse and have adapted to most environments on the planet. as with most
spiders, of the ones featured the females are large and the males are tiny and
vulnerable.
Special thanks must also go to local experts Beryl and Owen Evans, as well as
the staff of Parks Australia for their assistance.
